Tim Durtschi slays some Jackson pow in TGR's Winterland, which shows Friday at the Wheeler Opera House.

Friday, October 18

TGR’s Winterland
7:30 p.m., Wheeler Opera House

It’s time for the stoke to start building as this season’s crop of ski and snowboard flicks starts to hit the big screen. Tonight, Teton Gravity Research, the famed film outfit out of Jackson, Wyoming, showcases its newest release; among the two-dozen some athletes: Aspen local Colter Hinchliffe. Filming locales include Austria, Norway, British Columbia, and plenty of AK. Expect some good swag giveaways, too. Tickets $15, $7 ages 16 and under, aspenshowtix.com

Scarypoolparty
8:30 p.m., Belly Up Aspen

The multi-instrumentalist and singer Alejandro Aranda (a.k.a. Scarypoolparty) wowed everyone on American Idol earlier this year—he ultimately was runner-up—with his swirly beats and emotive songs. Now he’s touring to sold-out venues across the country and by all accounts he’s charming; lucky for you, (some) tickets are still available for his Aspen show. Synth-pop singer-songwriter Sucré opens. Tickets, $30 reserved (sold out), $20 general admission, bellyupaspen.com
