Slideshow: It’s Apparently Also #Japanuary in Colorado
There's nothing quite like hearing screams of joy through the trees on a powder day and, so far in 2017, they’re louder than ever. It’s the month when the luckiest skiers usually flock to the Far East for the height of powder season in Japan (officially #Japanuary on social media), but the storm cycle pounding the Colorado high country right now is just as good.
Aspen Snowmass has received more than 15 inches of new snow Monday night with all four mountains getting more than a foot in the last 24 hours. The grand total over the past seven days? 40 inches and counting, as weather patterns seem to promise continued snowfall throughout the rest of the week. But this storm is no joke ... Crested Butte, Monarch Mountain, and Arapahoe Basin made the rare call to close resort operations this week, while Interstate 70 was closed in both directions after getting buried by an avalanche.
Wish you were here right? Watch what’s coming down on Aspen Snowmass’ Panoramic Livecams and book a flight for the weekend ASAP. Otherwise, rest those legs up to do it all again tomorrow.
