Five years ago, Leadville resident Peter Frykholm decided to combine his affection for mountainous terrain with a lifelong love of woodworking. He enrolled in a manufacturing technology program and bought a 3-D printer. After acquiring a reliable source for beetle-kill pine, he started making and purveying highly decorative, three-dimensional renderings of Colorado’s 14ers.

He soon spread his geographic wings. Frykholm now offers numerous pieces focused on the Roaring Fork Valley, including carvings of Aspen and Aspen Highlands ski areas, Independence Pass, the Four Pass Loop, the Maroon Bells, and the Elk Range—all of them to exact scale.

His bread and butter, though, is customized projects. Frykholm is able to replicate almost any topographic feature in the world.
