Three Things

From a night at Kevin Costner’s to a feline influencer and a 24K sushi roll, this trio is the talk of the town.

Thing 1
In addition to nine lives, Aspen’s most famous feline has goggles, a ski pass, John Lennon sunglasses, a kitty PFD, and last we checked, 240K Instagram followers. The rescue cat, owned by Aspenites Erin Geldermans and Dan Schreck, has skied, hiked, biked, snowmobiled, and paddleboarded around Colorado, gaining likes and fans along the way. Since Liebchen, or “sweetheart” in German, couldn’t roam outside the house on his own—too many lurking predators like bears, mountain lions, and coyotes—his pet parents started bringing him on hikes (on leash or in a Cotapaxi backpack) and road trips. Liebchen seemed to love the outdoors—even water—so much, that eventually they started taking him everywhere they went, posting along the way. And a star, Adventure Cat, was born.

Thing 2
Fans of Yellowstone, take heed: whenever Kevin Costner happens to be away in Montana playing the fictional rancher John Dutton, his actual Aspen ranch, dubbed “Dunbar Ranch” (named for the soldier he played in Dances with Wolves), is available to rent, for $36,000 a night. The 160-acre property six miles east of downtown Aspen (which Costner has owned since 1994) can quarter up to 24 guests in no fewer than three homes with 12 bedrooms and bathrooms. In addition to three hot tubs and views of Independence Pass, amenities include a lake, a river, a backyard Field of Dreams (minus the Iowa corn) and, if Colorado Parks & Wildlife ever has its way, one day maybe even some gray wolves. Amy Mottier (970-319-7200, [email protected]) has the listing.

 Thing 3
If Shaun White and Justin Bieber ordered it, so should you: a sushi roll that might be the most expensive ($1,000)—certainly, the most decadent—menu item in Aspen. It’s called the Chrome Hearts Roll, and you can find it on the menu (but not with the price, which lists “She’s Expensive”) at Madame Ushi, a Japanese steak house, bar, and nightclub recently opened by Grammy Award–winning French DJ Cedric Gervais and Wei Chen, Nakazawa Aspen’s former chef de cuisine. Gervais and Chrome Hearts luxury brand co-founder Laurie Lynn Stark hatched the indulgent idea one day while skiing Ajax. What’s in the roll that’s worth a grand? Toro, tempura prawn, shishito peppers, A5 Wagyu, Ossetra caviar, black truffles, and, of course, edible 24K gold leaf. The ebony and sterling Chrome Hearts chopsticks, handmade in Hollywood, are complimentary (but available at the brand’s Aspen boutique, for $275 or $535, depending on how hungry you are for silver).
