Aspen Weekend Agenda: March 31–April 2, 2017

With on-mountain competitions, costume parties, live music, and season finales, it's officially Spring Jam at Aspen Snowmass.

Ahhh ... there's no time like springtime at Aspen Snowmass. 

Friday, March 31

Banked Slalom
10 a.m., Snowmass Mountain
The third annual competition is open to snowboarders only, who go head to head with the pros or within age divisions in a race format. Free to spectate, $35 entry fee to participate, $45 discounted lift ticket for participants, aspensnowmass.com

Freestyle Friday
12–2 p.m., Aspen Highlands
It's also flashback Friday with an all-out, throwback on-mountain party with vintage skiwear, double denim, and neon attire highly encouraged. Register from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Merry-Go-Round for the old-school bumps challenge and receive a complimentary JammyPack to rock for the rest of the season. Free to spectate, $25 entry fee to participate, aspensnowmass.com

Bud Light Street Rail Fridays
2 p.m., Snowmass Mountain
Every Friday, athletes showcase their creativity and skills in an urban-inspired rail garden on Fanny Hill for cash prizes and giveaways. The “Little Jibbers” competition lets kids under the age of 12 show off their best moves. Free to spectate, $20 to compete, aspensnowmass.com

Lynn Brit Cabin Après
2 p.m., Snowmass Mountain
Ski in to this end-of-season all-weekend après ski party for food and drink specials with guest DJs and giveaways. Free, aspensnowmass.com

Ullr Nights
5 p.m., Snowmass Mountain
Bundle up and ride the Snowmass gondola to some family-friendly snow play, including lift-served tubing ($34 per hour; reserve in advance), free ice skating, free snowshoe tours, snowbiking ($69 guided rides for ages 12 and up, free minibikes for younger kids), and climbing on a massive snow sculpture. Elk Camp restaurant serves dinner with live music, followed by s’mores and hot cocoa by the bonfire. $10 (gondola ride), gosnowmass.com

Movies at the Museum
7 p.m., Aspen Art Museum
A young couple goes on a Midwest crime spree in Terrence Malick’s hypnotic debut feature, Badlands (1973), starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. Free, aspenartmuseum.org 

JAS Café
7 & 9:15 p.m., Downstairs at The Little Nell
Jazz Aspen Snowmass presents this winter-long series of intimate shows by leading musicians and vocalists; this weekend features Grammy Award–winning gospel and soul instrumentalist Cory Henry Revival.

Piano Battle
7:30 p.m., Wheeler Opera House
International accomplished pianists Andreas Kern and Paul Cibis go head-to-head on the ivories, playing pieces by Chopin, Liszt, Debussy, and other composers in anticipation for the ultimate audience weigh-in to determine the winner. $45 (adult), $25 (student), aspenshowtix.com

Bonnie’s Bash
12–4 p.m., Aspen Mountain
One of the biggest locals' parties of the season—now in its 16th year—rings in spring Hawaiian-style on the deck of Bonnie's restaurant with kegs from Aspen Brewing Company, burgers while they last, and beats by DJ Mayfly. Free, facebook.com

Casa Mañana’s A Year with Frog and Toad

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet

Aspen's local, but internationally known, dance company performs a commissioned piece by Los Angeles-based choreographer Cherice Barton, known for her work with artists like Katy Perry and on Broadway and Las Vegas productions. Sunday, April 2

Sunlight Closing Day
All day, Sunlight Mountain Resort, Glenwood Springs
Close out Sunlight's 50th anniversary season with a
 mini-pond skim set up for the little ones, a rail jam in the terrain park, a “beach” volleyball tournament, plus live music by Whiskey Stomp and drink specials. Registration for the rail jam and volleyball tourney opens at 11 a.m. in the lodge. Games begin at 1 p.m. Free for events, lift tickets $52 (adults), $40 (kids), sunlightmtn.com

Bacon Appreciation & Closing Day  
All day, Buttermilk 
Need we say more? This day-long bacon closing day celebration features a full schedule of swine, including bacon waffles, bacon samplers, a bacon and beer happy hour, and a cocktail competition. New this year: an uphill race with best costume prizes (7:30 a.m., registration $15 or $40 for a family of four). Free, aspensnowmass.com

You Knew Me When
