Aspen Ideas Festival: Spotlight Health
Times vary through Sunday, Aspen Institute 

Spotlight Health returns for the fourth year as the opening segment of the annual Aspen Ideas Festival. The tradition of deep dives along the cutting edge of health and medicine continues, presented as always through a global lens. Stimulating and often provocative, Spotlight Health features some of the world’s leading doers and thinkers with a number of open-to-the-public events in the lineup. Prices vary, aspenideas.org 

AREDAY Impact Film and Expo
 
10 a.m.–6 p.m., Snowmass Village Mall

On the heels of the annual AREDAY Summit, a program of the American Renewable Energy Institute (AREI), are these weekend festivities. which include an environmental film festival (with showings at Snowmass Village Town Hall), Community Conversations on the Fanny Hill stage, electric vehicle display and test-drive demos, and product expo. 6 p.m., Benedict Music Tent

 Tonight's lineup features Jon Batiste and Stay Human and headliner Michael McDonald, along with a free performance (5 p.m.) by Arthur Lee Land at the pre-show lawn party, with food and drink vendors. From $66, jazzaspensnowmass.org 

The Memory of Water
7:30 p.m., Thunder River Theatre Company, Carbondale

Shelagh Stephenson’s award-winning dark comedy examines the nature of memories and the bonds between the women in a family as three sisters make arrangements for the funeral of their mother. The cast of six actors includes Meredith Nelson-Daniel, Gerald DeLisser, Jennifer Johnson, Gabrielle Bailes, Laura Crow, and veteran TV and film actor William Bledsoe. From $12, thunderrivertheatre.com

Lift-Up Balloon Fest
6–10 a.m. and 6–9:30 p.m., Crown Mountain Park, El Jebel

Balloons will soar over the midvalley during this family-friendly fundraiser for local food bank Lift-Up that also includes kids’ activities, a pancake breakfast, morning yoga, and a Saturday evening balloon glow and concert. $10 (kids under 10 free), liftoff4liftupballoonfestival.org

Hairspray

Artist Talk: Anna Gaskell
6 p.m., Aspen Art Museum

The New York City–based artist will discuss her carefully planned photographs, films, and drawings, which are often self-reflective, ethereal, and dream-like. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at institutions including the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, the Menil Collection, Houston, Des Moines Art Center, and Aspen Art Museum. Anderson Ranch Guest Faculty Lecture
7 p.m., Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Snowmass

Spend an evening with Joyce Tenneson as she presents slides of her work, and speaks about their inspiration, creative process, and studio practice. Tenneson's photographs have appeared on countless covers for magazines such as Time, Life, Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, and The New York Times Magazine. She is also the author of 15 books and has received numerous awards, including the International Center of Photography’s Infinity Award and the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Photographers of America.
