Carbondale Mountainfair
Times vary, ongoing through Sunday

Since 1972, this annual event has celebrated Carbondale's strong sense of community and free-spirited identity, drawing some 20,000 people to Sopris Park. In addition to almost 150 artisans and other vendors, don't miss the Friday afternoon community drum circle, continuous live music (headliners include Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossol and March Fourth Marching Band), and pie baking, wood splitting, and limbo contests. Also part of the weekend are Saturday's 14.2-mile Mount Sopris Runoff and Sunday's Porcupine Bike Loop Race (costumes required). Free admission, carbondalearts.org 

Twin Lakes Tunnel & Diversion Tour
10 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Roaring Fork Conservancy

Join the Roaring Fork Conservancy for a rare glimpse into the 4-mile long tunnel through the Continental Divide that diverts 40 percent of the Roaring Fork Rivers headwaters to the Front Range, as well as a visit to Lost Man Reservoir and its water collection system. ACES Mushroom Fair 
1–4 p.m., Hallam Lake

Learn about the magic of shrooms (no, not that kind!) under the guidance of visiting mycologists from teh Denver Botanic Gardens. Free, aspennature.org 

Aspen Chamber Symphony
6 p.m., Benedict Music Tent

With Markus Stenz as conductor, pianist Paul Lewis and baritone Andrè Schuen will perform classics from Beethoven, Mahler, and Schumann. $80, aspenmusicfestival.com

Hairspray
7:30 p.m., Hurst Theatre

Get your beehives ready for the Tony Award–winning musical based on the 1988 John Waters film. The Theatre Aspen production will be helmed by director and choreographer Mark Martino, whose Hurst Theatre credits also include Les Misérables, Cabaret, and Mamma Mia! Hairspray runs through August 19. From $29, theatreaspen.org

The best way to spend a summer Saturday morning in Aspen? At the U-shaped farmer’s market in the heart of town, perusing plenty of locally grown produce, handmade crafts, jewelry, and souvenirs. Free, aspenchamber.org 

Enduro World Series
7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Snowmass 

For the second year in a row, the only US stop of this eight event international downhill mountain biking competition is at Snowmass. Aspen Thrift Shop Art Sale
10 a.m.–2 p.m., Red Brick Center for the Arts

There’s no better place to treasure hunt than at this annual art sale, featuring a curious collection of art, movie posters, and antiques along with silent auction items—100% of the sales benefiting non-profits in the Roaring Fork Valley. Music on the Mountain
1 p.m., Aspen Mountain

Beyond the Benedict Music Tent, the Aspen Music Festival and School students perform a repertoire of their own choosing every Saturday through August at 11,000 feet. Pack a blanket and hit the Butcher’s Block before you go for supplies to picnic in the gorgeous meadow—a short walk out Richmond Ridge at the top of Aspen Mountain. Free with the purchase of a gondola ticket ($22), aspensnowmass.com

Bluegrass Sundays
12–3 p.m., Aspen Mountain

Take a hike up Ajax; once you make the summit, nothing beats a cold beer and a free open-air concert on top of the world as a reward. The roster of local bluegrass bands rotates each week, and if you’re not up for the hike, catch the Silver Queen Gondola ($22), which starts spinning at 10 a.m. Free, aspensnowmass.com

Renée Fleming and Iron Barnatan
4 p.m., Benedict Music Tent

The beloved diva returns to Aspen to perform songs based on the poems of Emily Dickinson and written for Flemming by Michael Tilson Thomas. Also on the program are the world premiere of a piano concerto composed by Music Fest president and CEO Alan Fletcher, written for and played by Israeli pianist Barnatan, and the Aspen Festival Orchestra performing Stravinsky's haunting The Firebird suite. $90, aspenmusicfestival.com
