The Meeting

Poetry Reading with Jodie Hollander

Join Jodie Hollander, recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship in South Africa, a National Endowment for the Humanities Grant in Italy, and a Hawthorrnden Fellowship in Scotland, as she reads excerpts from her book Dark Horses, with an additional reading by local poet Tony Alcantara. Thunder River Theatre Company (TRTC), winner of two 2017 Colorado Theatre Guild Henry Awards, opens its 2017–2018 season with the romantic comedy Dead Man’s Cell Phone. Directed by TRTC executive artistic director Corey Simpson, the play takes a humorous look at technology’s ability to create feelings of love, connection, and isolation in the digital age. Potato Day Parade and Celebration

Magician Doc Murdock

Part of TACAW's Kids Kulture! series, Doc Murdock presents a mixture of amazement, fun, and awe, with many original and classic baffling feats of legerdemain (that's fancy speak for magic ). Both kids and parents will love his wondrous act, which that has a healthy dose of "twilight zone" comic surprise. $5, tacaw.org

Art Heist & Speakeasy

Head to the home of the Carbondale Arts and Dance Initiative for an evening of high jinks and thievery. The fundraiser begins in the R2 Gallery with a Champagne preview for the “thieves,” then moves into a cocktail party with appetizers by Tiny Chef, live music, surprise entertainment, and, of course, the Art Heist (your chance to steal great artwork right off the walls of the R2 Gallery). The evening ends across the alley with a speakeasy at Batch, featuring a dinner by Mark Fischer; a secret code is required for entry. The Ellyn Rucker Jazz Trio

A talented bop-based pianist and sensuous singer, Ellyn Rucker has long been a fixture in the Denver area. She started playing piano when she was eight, discovered jazz at 13, and studied classical piano at Drake University.
