Artists in Residence: Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre

This New York– and Palestine-based company finishes a weeklong residency with Dance Initiative. Through dance, the group tells a story of underrepresented communities, with the aim of inspiring transnational dialogue and social discourse. Retro Film Series: Decades of Skiing Aspen/Snowmass

The Aspen Historical Society and Aspen Skiing Company co-host this series of vintage ski flicks from the 1940s to the 1970s. Aspen Parkrun

 

8 a.m., Aspen Recreation Center

Every Saturday, the Aspen Recreation department hosts weekly 5K timed runs. The course will follow the High School Trail through the school district to the Marolt Open Space, continue over the Castle Creek foot bridge, and then return. Dance Valley Dance

 

11 a.m., Carbondale Recreation and Community Center

This 12-hour dance marathon—led by DJs, dance instructors, youth dance groups, and high school cheerleaders—will benefit both the Aspen Youth Center and Stepping Stones of the Roaring Fork Valley. Cheer on and motivate the dancers of all ages, who have solicited pledges for every hour they dance. Elk Camp Surf & Snow Beach Party

 

11:30 a.m.–3:45 p.m., Elk Camp, Snowmass

The celebration at Snowmass, which wraps up the resort’s 50th anniversary season, includes a party at Elk Camp with music from DJ Naka G and DJ Hex, drink specials, margarita bike blenders, hot tubs, and prize giveaways. Plus, at the end of the day, there’s a swimsuit ski parade to the base. If all goes as planned, attendees could help break the North American record for the largest parade of this kind. Aspen Mountain Closing Day

 

All day, Aspen Mountain

Bid farewell to the season with two parties, one at the top of the mountain and one at the base. The ‘80s prom party (where large poofy dresses are highly encouraged) starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Sundeck. The Colorado-based 1980s band The Goonies will perform on the outdoor patio until 3 p.m. Ski down the hill for the afternoon party called La Ultima Fiesta, which takes place at Ajax Tavern. The Mala Rumba band will perform from 2–5 p.m, and food stations will be set up on the patio. Free with ski pass, aspensnowmass.com

Snowmass Closing Day

 

All day, Snowmass Mountain

Wrap up the resort’s 50th anniversary season with the 10th annual Schneetag, where teams of four slide down a slope in a homemade craft, then try to float it across a pond. Each team must also present a skit before the descent. During the Smith Optics Grudge Match, snowboarders spin a “trick wheel” to see what feat they will have to complete in a specially constructed terrain park. Free, aspensnowmass.com
