Aspen Weekend Agenda: April 20–22

Nearly a week after the lifts closed for the season, things in the valley still go strong with Earth Day celebrations, 5Point Film Festival, and more.

This highly popular adventure film festival includes four programs of short films, filmmaker appearances, live performances, informative talks and panels, and parties throughout the weekend. All of the festival’s programming centers around the themes of adventure, the outdoors, the human spirit, and conserving our natural surroundings. Tonight's film program is sold out, but it's absolutely worth trying to find an extra ticket at the venue. Program admission from $15, 5pointfilm.org

Part of this month's programs of local school plays, Theatre Aspen School presents this musical production about a girl named Eleanor who dreams her way into a comic book adventure and finds both new friends and evil foes. $10 for educators, $12 for students, $20 for adults, wheeleroperahouse.com

 The local musician, who explores both rock and roll and soul music, returns for an encore performance. Free, marbledistilling.com

The Anderson Brothers Bring You the Magic of Benny Goodman

Dead Floyd

Covering both Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead songs, this group of four was named one of Westword’s 10 Finest Tribute Bands in 2016. Aspen Parkrun
 
8 a.m., Aspen Recreation Center

Every Saturday, the Aspen Recreation department hosts weekly 5K timed runs. The course will follow the High School Trail through the school district to the Marolt Open Space, continue over the Castle Creek foot bridge, and then return. Parkrun is an international movement that encourages communities to sponsor free runs open to all. Free, parkrun.us/aspen

20th Annual Fryingpan River Cleanup
 
8:30 a.m.– 12 p.m., Lions Park, Basalt

Lend a hand to clean up a 1-mile stretch of one of the country’s most beautiful rivers. Hosted by the Roaring Fork Conservancy, this community event includes a free breakfast and prizes for unusual finds. roaringfork.org

Divine Beloved & Sacred Cacao Ceremony

Shook Twins & the Dustbowl Revival

Two musical groups join forces for this evening of Americana sounds. Idaho natives and twin sisters Laurie and Katelyn Shook make up the Shook Twins, who offer a lively blend of folk, roots, groove, and soul. An eight-member band from Venice Beach, California, the Dustbowl Revival brings in sounds of bluegrass, soul, New Orleans funk, and roots. $25 in advance, $30 day of, tacaw.org

Phutureprimitive

A moniker for the Bay Area producer and songwriter Rain, Phutureprimitive has opened for Bassnectar and Infected Mushroom and played at the Electric Forest Festival. His influences include downtempo, glitch hop, and psychedelic rock. Boulder-based music producer Kris Artz opens. Earth Day Celebration
 
2–5 p.m., Farm Park at Cozy Point Ranch

Celebrate Earth Day with alpacas Kona and Roy and all of the new baby farm animals. Put on by Aspen TREE, the afternoon is open to all ages and includes live music, children’s activities, and local vendors. If you’re really looking to roll up your sleeves and spend some more time on the farm, come early for volunteer work at 11 a.m. Free, aspen-tree.org

Shut Up and Play the Hits
 
7:30 p.m., Belly Up

This 2012 music documentary follows LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy over a 48-hour-period before and after the band's last show at Madison Square Garden. The film also includes extended interview segments between Murphy and pop culture writer Chuck Klosterman. Free, bellyupaspen.com
