Aspen Weekend Agenda: July 13–15

This weekend is full of entertaining theater productions, mesmerizing musical performances, and a couple of runs to stretch your legs.

Godspell preview by Theatre Aspen

Lunchtime Auctionette

In Retrospect: The Last 15 Years Opening Reception

Aspen Chamber Symphony

JAS Café: Scott Tixier Quintet

Saturday, July 14

Aspen Valley Marathon
6:30 a.m., Wagner Park, Aspen
It's official—the race is on! Lace up to show Basalt some love at this point-to-point race . If 26.2 miles sounds like more than you want to tackle, there is a half-marathon from Woody Creek to Basalt and a 5K in Basalt. The route takes you from Aspen to Basalt over 26.2 scenic miles in this Boston Marathon qualifier; or run the half-marathon from Woody Creek to Basalt, or a 5K in Basalt. Aspen Parkrun 
8 a.m., Aspen Recreation Center
Every Saturday, the Aspen Recreation department hosts weekly 5K timed runs. The course will follow the High School Trail through the school district to the Marolt Open Space, continue over the Castle Creek foot bridge, and then return. Parkrun is an international movement that encourages communities to sponsor free runs open to all. Free, parkrun.us/aspen 

Aspen Brain Lab

This annual gathering is a heady affair, with a dozen experts in brain studies sharing the latest findings on the creative, healthy, impaired, and future brain. Speakers include investigative journalist Scott Carney, sleep specialist Dr. Charles Gzeisler, Alzheimer's advocate Goerge Vradenburg, and ParaYoga founder Rod Stryker. $590-$990, aspenbrainlab.com

Opera Scenes Master Class

Roaring Fork Valley Garden Conservancy Open Day

With scorching sun, plant-leveling winds and long winters, high country gardening isn't for the faint of heart. Guided Tour

Special Session of: Art, Healing & HOPE  
3:30-5:30 p.m., The Art Base
Taught by Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Expressive Arts Therapist Sheri Gaynor, participants will have an opportunity to process emotions in response to the Lake Christine fire. The event will focus on resilience and the power of community with an opportunity for questions and discussion. Designed as a family healing event, all ages and levels of experience are welcome. Please note that parental participation is requested. The focus will be on process, rather than end result, in this fun and cathartic class. Free, theartbase.org

Hurst Lecture Series: Designing the Next Energy Economy

New Moon Stargazer

JAS Café: Igor Butman & Fantine

Butman leads the Moscow Jazz Orchestra and his eponymous quintet, Russia's best touring hardcore jazz unit. He's also played for Bill Clinton and Vladmir Putin. Godspell Opening Night

Alison Knowles: Proposition #2: Make a Salad (Plein air variation)

While some of your salads may be Insta-worthy, are they art? The answer is "yes" at this participatory event. Afterwards, Nicole Woods, assistant professor of modern and contemporary art history at the University of Notre Dame, will discuss Knowles’s practice and the historical context of this performance. Free, aspenartmuseum.org

Walking Tour to the Tent

Aspen Festival Orchestra
