Aspen Weekend Agenda: September 14–16, 2018

With two women's film festivals in town, Ruggerfest, car races, and a bike ride, this promises to be an adrenaline-filled weekend.

Friday, September 14

If you love rugby, this is your opportunity to watch exciting matches all weekend. 

51st Annual Aspen Ruggerfest
9 a.m., Rio Grande and Wagner Parks
For more than 50 years, Ruggerfest has drawn teams from around the country for this multiday tourney, as well as plenty of avid fans and a whole lot of rugby rowdiness. Cheer on the home team, the Gentlemen of Aspen. Free, aspen-ruggerfest.com 

Test Drive an Electric Vehicle 
1–4  p.m., Community Banks of Colorado parking lot, 210 N. Mill Street, Aspen
Sponsored by the City of Aspen, the event gives you the opportunity to talk to local electric vehicle owners and test drive a Nissan Leaf, Prius Prime, Chevy Bolt, Chevy Volt, and Honda Clarity. Free, cityofaspen.com

Beyond the Square Opening Reception
5–7 p.m., Red Brick Center for the Arts, Aspen
The exhibit features works by local artists who were thinking "outside the box" of their artistic mediums. The artists include Annie DeCamp, Melvin Gallant, Isabella Garaffa, Liz Heller and David Kenichi Kodoma, Kathy Honea, and Michael McConnell. Free, redbrickaspen.com

Brad Reed Nelson Exhibition Opening Reception
5 – 7 p.m., the Art Base, Basalt
The Carbondale-based woodworker and furniture maker investigates space, weight, and void in this new exhibit, titled Object, Function Know Function. The show mixes earthy, oxidizing tones with bright splashes of color. On display until October 5. Free, theartbase.org   

No Man’s Land Film Festival
5:30 and 8 p.m., Crystal Theatre, Carbondale
Founded by Aisha Weinhold of Carbondale in 2015, the festival aims to redefine feminine adventure and sport. Weinhold's definition of adventure has morphed over the years to include “any bold action outside your comfort zone,” which has opened the door to films about grappling with racism, gender, online trolling, and political activism. $35, nomanslandfilmfestival.org

Watch rad women put their spin on big-time adventures at the Women's Adventure Film Tour, showing for one night at the Wheeler Opera House.

Saturday, September 15

Saturday promises to be another magical evening at Sustainable Settings' Annual Harvest Festival. 

Aspen Parkrun 
8 a.m., Aspen Recreation Center
Every Saturday, the Aspen Recreation department hosts weekly 5K timed runs. The course follows the High School Trail through the school district to the Marolt Open Space, continues over the Castle Creek foot bridge, and then returns. Parkrun is an international movement that encourages communities to sponsor free runs open to all. Free, parkrun.us/aspen

Back for the third year, and this time with 50-mile and 50K options, this ride highlights some of the best mountain biking trails in the area. Online registration is closed, but you can still register the morning of the ride, rfmba.org

The Motoring Classic 
12:30–4 p.m., Snowmass
After its well-received debut last year, this weekend of vintage car racing, a huge car show, and car club rallies returns. Ogle premium sportscars and preview the cars that will race on Sunday and Monday at today's auto show at Snowmass Town Park. Snowmass Wine Festival Grand Tasting

It’s not the Food & Wine Classic, but this fest, hosted by the Snowmass Village Rotary Club, is a heck of a lot more accessible, way less expensive, and, some say, more fun. Sustainable Settings Annual Harvest Festival Dinner

On the Rise: The Hunts

This indie-alternative-folk band includes seven brothers and sisters from Virginia who grew up in a musical home and fell in love with composing their own music. Sunday, September 16

Last weekend the skies above Snowmass were filled with hot air balloons. This weekend the excitement continues as vintage cars are on display and take to the streets of Snowmass Village for a race.

After its well-received debut last year, this weekend of vintage car racing, a huge car show, and car club rallies returns. This year’s format has been expanded to include two days of competition presented by Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing, with more than 60 classic cars vying with each other through the streets of Snowmass Village on Sunday and Monday. Aspen Expeditions Field Planning and Skills Clinic
