You’ve seen game lounges before, but we guarantee you’ve never seen a setup like the one opening December 7 at The Collective Snowmass in Base Village. With pulsating artwork throughout, an array of vintage and modern games, and a ball pool in the shape of nearby Ziegler Reservoir, it’s got everything kids of all ages could ask for.

Last fall, 11 Denver artists, plus local painter Kelly Peters, transformed The Collective’s lower level from vanilla to vibrant, covering seemingly every available space—even the bathrooms—with colorful graphics, murals, and interactive art. One wall, designed by electronics whiz Thomas “Detour” Evans, is like a touch screen piano—musical notes sound when particular spots are tapped. Another wall, spray-painted by “Taste” (real name Charles Lewis), welcomes gamers to the lounge in four-foot-high, street-art letters.

The artistic flourishes extend to the games themselves: a custom-designed eight-player foosball table, a ping-pong “tube,” a Skee-Ball table backed with a funhouse mirror, and more. The selection of arcade games includes old favorites like Pac-Man, Galaga, Space Invaders, and Donkey Kong, and there are Xbox stations for the tech set.

Toddlers can immerse themselves in the three-foot-deep ball pool while trying to match the pawprints on some of the orbs with those of the prehistoric animals—mastodon, giant sloth, and more—depicted in a large wall mural.

Best of all—at least as far as parents may be concerned—you can grab a bite to eat upstairs at the new mix6 restaurant or relax over cocktails at the adjacent Moxi Bar while the grommets play downstairs … if you can tear your own self away from the games, that is.
