In its 10th year of business, Aspen’s first craft brewery is making big moves. After losing its taproom on Hopkins Avenue's "Restaurant Row" in the fall, in late December the company opened Aspen Tap at 121 S. Galena St., in the building that formerly housed Peach’s Corner Café.

“I think the timing was right for the next step in the evolution of Aspen Brewing Company, and the new location definitely lent itself to adding more to our offering. We wanted to broaden the demographic we were appealing to,” said owner Duncan Clauss.

Aspen Tap serves the brewery’s growing variety of beers on tap, of course, along with a sizeable selection of wine and a full bar with cocktails. One recently added specialty drink: the Alpine Start, made with 10th Mountain Stout, espresso, bourbon, and coconut milk. The bar menu, executed by members of the kitchen staff who worked at Town in Carbondale before it closed, includes shareable apps and small plates like chili and tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich that are available for lunch, aprés, dinner, and late night. No entree is above $15, a rarity in Aspen.

The new location, at the intersection of Galena Street and Hopkins Avenue, is the brewery’s third home since it was founded in March 2008. The space has a larger dining area than did Peach’s with the addition of an adjacent space that used to house a hair salon. Scenic photos by local photographer Devin Pool adorn the walls. What used to be the ordering counter and pastry case for Peach’s has been transformed into an ample bar. The larger dining room also affords more room for live music and other community-oriented events. Look for live music, for example, on Wednesdays through the end of the ski season.

To celebrate the decade anniversary, says Clauss, Aspen Tap will host various happenings March 13–17, including live music most nights. A shot and a beer special is available through the end of the month with an Aspen brewery cold one and a pour of Jameson for $10 (a dollar for each year).

Also marking the anniversary is History on Tap, a presentation with the Aspen Historical Society on Tuesday, March 13, at the company’s brewing facility at the Aspen Airport Business Center. Learn about the history of brewing in Aspen from the 1880s to the present and tour the brewery.
