Lets all admit it: Aspen is an Instagram-obsessed town. But when you’re lucky enough to live in a place as jaw-droppingly stunning as Pitkin County, you can’t really help but share it with the world right?
Enter the Aspen Chamber Resort Association, who launched the inaugural #AspenPhotoChallenge in 2016 to shine a spotlight on the best of the best resident photographers —the ones giving us serious camera skill and adventure envy every time we look at our newsfeed.
The two-week competition (May 27-June 10, 2017), presented in partnership with Outside magazine sent 15 Roaring Fork Valley pros out to capture the start of summer across three categories: landscape, light, and motion. Seth Beckton, Dirk Braun, Chris Council, David Clifford, Jordan Curet, Jeremy Joseph, Robert Millman, Ben Moscona, Shawn O’Connor, Devin Pool, Matt Power, Jeremy Swanson, Craig Turpin, Draper White, and Kristin Wright submitted 15 images each, which were judged by Andrea Wallace, photo director at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, renowned photographer and visual storyteller Peter McBride, and Jakob Schiller, associate editor at Outside Magazine.
Here’s who took home top honors (and cash prizes) at last night’s Awards Party at the Wheeler Opera House:
Landscape: Devin Pool
Light: Kristin Wright
Motion: Jeremy Swanson
Best Image: Jeremy Joseph
Peer Favorite: Devin Pool
Runner-up Best Image: David Clifford
And the competition is still not over. Starting Tuesday, June 13 (8 a.m. MST), the Crowd Favorite category will be open to the public for voting through June 27th (11:59 p.m. MST). To cast a ballot for your favorite photographer (limit one per 24 hours), visit: aspenchamber.org/aspenphotochallenge
