Meet the St. Regis Aspen's new hotel dog

He’s got soulful brown eyes that’ll melt your heart, a muscular physique, and a fur coat that’s the envy of others. Who is this dream guy? Kitty, the new hotel dog at the St. Regis Aspen Resort, who made his debut during the mid-December Christmas tree lighting party, becoming the first resident pooch at any St. Regis property.
Born last July in Atlanta, the Bernese mountain dog has quickly amassed a huge fan club, winning over adults and kids alike with his good looks and playful personality. His official duties include lounging in the lobby, hosting story time, picking up guests at the airport, and serving as a hotel ambassador at community events. Why the feline moniker? St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV, who opened the original New York hotel in 1904, had a dog with that name.
We took a few minutes to chat with Kitty—while petting him, natch—about his impressions of his new home thus far.
Favorite Hotel Hangs
The fountain courtyard—I love jumping into the snow around the trees and bushes and snatching up s’more crumbs around the firepits. I also like to greet guests in front of the hotel and then run a few laps around the elk statues. (I thought those things were real at first!) Plus, those luggage carts with the wheels are so fascinating.
Best Spots to Sniff Around Town
Of Grape and Grain (I like the smell of wine—who knew?) and Rocky Mountain Pet Shop. And I adore Gorsuch, especially when I can sit on the patio and dog watch.
Favorite Spot to be Petted or Scratched
Let me walk between your legs so you can scratch my back and butt, please.
Best Winter Social Event
Other than my debut, it’s snow polo. I got my very own igloo by the VIP tent. I also liked pushing my face against the glass and watching the horses run around—I kind of wished that ball was mine to play with, though. I still watch polo sometimes on TV.
Favorite Trail Around Town
The Rio Grande—it’s a great place to sniff out flowers and shrubs in the summer and fall, and roll around in the snow in winter.
Tastiest item on the St. Regis’s pet menu
The poached organic chicken breast with basmati rice and steamed carrots. I’m starting to drool just thinking about it.
