The boys of The BLK MKT are back from Bali and as soon as SoulCycle left the Boogie’s building, Mike Delaney and Sammy Steen popped-up shop for their second annual creative collective in the iconic space with Gravity Productions.
Last winter, the crew took up residency in the vacant Crystal Palace, which brought a much-needed urban energy to Aspen's shopping and gallery mix with its Balinese-inspired apparel and accessories including Steen and Delaney’s own label ROAM and guest-curated exhibitions from Oakland-based artist Max Kauffman. In just a few short months, a true community was created—refreshing and inspiring in a town where locally owned businesses are continually disappearing.
New to the fold this season is Aspen-based artist Skye Weinglass, daughter of Boogie’s founder Leonard “Boogie” Weinglass, who is operating The Birds Nest Gallery on the second floor where the beloved local diner once lived. Here, she will highlight both emerging and established artists—rounding out the group’s self-described “multiple media concept space.”
And it’s the grand finale for the longtime family affair, which Boogie sold to the New York-based Thor Equities for $27 million in 2015, before construction begins on an unannounced project this spring.

“Even though we’ll only be inhabiting the space for a short amount of time again, we hope to send off the building with the same positivity and community energy that it has provided for so long,” says Steen. “It has been fascinating to learn more about Boogie’s history dating back to his Merry-Go-Round days, which spoke to a younger crowd that he cultivated and pioneered through his stores with the atmosphere, music, and a signature style. It's something we are definitely striving to do within The BLK MKT."
A grand opening celebration is planned for Friday, January 13 along with an "Old Guard Meets New" showcase on January 17, where Boogie himself will discuss the ins and outs of running a small business in Aspen with Steen, Delaney, and Aspen Entrepreneurs director Dave Mayer as moderator.
The BLK MKT and The Bird's Nest will be open daily through President’s Day weekend with complimentary Guayaki yerba mate tea on tap.
