The Faces of Gemma
Angelo and Denise Elia, together with their daughter Giovanna, open their newest Italian restaurant in downtown Basalt—returning west with a concept that is casual, elevated, and rooted in authenticity. The family is also behind Casa D’Angelo, remembered by Aspen locals from its brief but notable time here.
Set in the former Free Range Kitchen space, Gemma—Italian for “jewel” or “blossom" — represents something both precious and new: a fresh beginning, a new adventure, and a deeply personal chapter for the Elia family. Alongside Angelo and Denise’s longstanding passion for hospitality, Giovanna brings a younger energy and influence to the restaurant, helping shape its next generation.
Together, the Elias continue their culinary journey with a place grounded in warmth, tradition, and genuine Italian spirit.
