Though she hung up her competitive helmet in 2014, Olympic and X Games snowboarder and local Gretchen Bleiler continues to inspire. One of her current projects is ALEX, the water bottle company she co-founded with her husband, Chris Hotell (the name comes from Bleiler’s personal mantra, “Always Live Extraordinarily”).
The colorful, easy-to-clean bottles ($33) are one way in which the couple hopes to help shift habits. “I’ve seen the effects of climate change firsthand and realized that if we want people to live sustainably, we need to make it simple,” says Bleiler. “It’s our small everyday actions that add up, and ALEX is a tangible way to take a step in the right direction.”
With the help of a Kickstarter campaign last year that raised more than $100,000 over the original goal, the bottles are increasing their footprint—while helping us reduce ours.
Available at the Aspen Art Museum, Shakti Shala, and Radio Boardshop; customizable bottles ($34) at alexbottle.com.
